  • health care is a necessity for fostering human development. Yet Ghana, as other developing countries, is struggling to provide improved, quality and affordable health care to its citizens.Against the backdrop of limited public funds and competition from other sectors of the economy; inadequacy is but a lightening of the actual challenges in health care delivery. Undoubtedly, Public-Private Partnerships in health care seems to be the innovation. But what can and will the private sector do in health care delivery? What are the prospects and challenges of a policy that fosters intense private sector support. This work, explores the nuisances of this approach through a local context. The research work tried to explore this by analysing the contribution of the private sector in local level heath care delivery.

  • Essay from the year 2005 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Globalization, Political Economics, grade: 1,7, University of Münster, course: European Economic Policy Course, 14 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: The fact that Finland is far away from the centres of European economic activities, for example the so-called blue banana, the Sunbelt and the Industrial axe, its relative economic success, especially in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT) makes it so interesting to analyse what is so characteristic for the "Finish-ICT Miracle", as Paija (2001) has called it. During the last decade, Finland has become one of the world's most successful technology-intensive countries, finding itself in the front rank of the world's digital economies. In a decade, Finland went from being one of the least information and communication technologies specialized countries to become the single most specialized one. "Currently the Finnish ICT sector, with Nokia as its locomotive, consists of some 6 thousand firms and accounts for approximately 10 percent of Finland's GDP" (Rouvinen & Antilla 2003, p.87) and therefore have put Finland on the map of global economies. Determining for this "raise" of Finland is the development of a new growth path in this small Nordic country. Finland has managed to transform itself from a resource-based into a knowledge-based economy in a rather short pe...

  • If we observe the overall direction, Bangladesh is following a trend to move about to a market based economy. But the pace of privatization has been slow in our country and private sector could not achieve expected level of efficiency and lacked proper direction of development. Among the private sectors, banking and telecommunication sectors have been studied to illustrate the demand scenario of job market and three departments from social science faculty of Dhaka University have been centre of attention of the research to know how they respond to meet the employers' demand. Public administration and Economics departments of Dhaka University show high and low responsiveness to private sector demand respectively. While Sociology department did not respond to private sector demand, rather they have responded to NGO sector demand. Among these three departments Public Administration is not also fully compatible with private sector need. The study argues social science faculty of Dhaka University has not responded significantly to the private sectors' demand because of inefficiencies in the private sector and lack of proper direction of private sector development. • Introduction to Private Equity is a critical yet grounded guide to the private equity industry. Far more than just another introductory guide, the book blends academic rigour with practical experience to provide a critical perspective of the industry from a professional who has worked at many levels within the industry, including insurance, funds of funds, funds and portfolio companies. The book looks at private equity from the point of view of the individual or the business. How is a private business valued? How is the acquisition transaction processed? What are the due diligence issues that should be considered before moving ahead? A valuable insight to a rather opaque market. Introduction to Private Equity covers the private equity industry as a whole, highlighting its historical development in order to put its recent development into perspective. The book covers its organization, governance and function, then details the various segments within the industry, including LBO, Venture Capital, Mezzanine Financing, Growth Capital and beyond. Finally, it offers a framework to anticipate and understand its future developments. It provides a balanced perspective on the current corporate governance challenges which are affecting the industry and draws perspective to understand the evolution of the sector, following one of its major crises.

  • Finland is a nation of opera. Nowhere else in the world are there as many contemporary operas being produced per capita as in Finland. Finnish audiences are receptive and interested, and indeed proud of the high quality of Finland's music culture. But what is it to be an opera composer in Finland and in today's increasingly globalised society? In this book, editors Elke Albrecht and Eeva-Taina Forsius-Schibli provide facts and up-to-date information but principally give composers themselves a voice in a collection of essays with personal musings concerning everything about opera, from its history to its aesthetic principles. For the reader, this yields a unique opportunity to glance behind the scenes of the incredibly complex production process of the joint artwork that is opera. Along the way, we learn of the meaning of success and also something of the downside of artistic creativity. The book includes contributions by Kalevi Aho, Atso Almila, Markus Fagerudd, Paavo Heininen, Mikko Heiniö, Heinz-Juhani Hofmann, Pekka Jalkanen, Olli Kortekangas, Juha T. Koskinen, Ilkka Kuusisto, Timo-Juhani Kyllönen, Jukka Linkola, Uljas Pulkkis, Veli-Matti Puumala, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Herman Rechberger, Kaija Saariaho, Aulis Sallinen and Tapio Tuomela as well as a preface by Jorma Silvasti.

  • It is one of the important financial pillars of the financial sector, which plays a crucial role in the functioning of an economy. It is also necessary to suggest the remedial measures of banks so that they can take right action whenever required to keep all the operation and function of banks at right track. So it is necessary to study on this topic with the rationality of banking sector with operational performance based on ten parameters with selected banks of public sector and private sector. This study is based on Private Sector and Public Sector in India. Those banks are engaged in different activities of the financial services. The performances of banks are examined empirically by parameters. As per the requirement of the objectives, performance of the banking system is examined by the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) and Coefficient of Variation. Private sector banks are working to earn maximum profit and the responsibility of the growth and the welfare is on Public Sector banks.

  • Capitalism is the only complex system known to us that can provide an efficient and innovative economy, but the financial crisis has brought out the pernicious side of capitalism and shown that it remains dependent on the state to rescue it from its own deficiencies. Can capitalism be reshaped so that it is fit for society, or must we acquiesce to the neoliberal view that society will be at its best when markets are given free rein in all areas of life? The aim of this book is to show that the acceptance of capitalism and the market does not require us to accept the full neoliberal agenda of unrestrained markets, insecurity in our working lives, and neglect of the environment and of public services. In particular, it should not mean supporting the growing dominance of public life by corporate wealth. The world’s most successful mature economies are those that fully embrace both the discipline of the market and the need for protection against its negative outcomes. Indeed, a continuing, unresolved clash between these two forces is itself a major source of vitality and innovation for economy and society. But maintenance of that tension depends on the enduring strength of trade unions and other critical groups in civil society – a strength that is threatened by neoliberalism’s increasingly intolerant onward march. Outlining the principles for a renewed and more assertive social democracy, this timely and important book shows that real possibilities exist to create a better world than that which is being offered by the wealthy elites who dominate our public and private lives.

  • Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Public-private partnerships are a tool that is increasingly used by development agencies to improve infrastructure in developing countries. This concept is also employed in piped water provision. The failure of some major projects suggests that there is considerable risk involved when the public and private sectors combine forces. The fact that piped water provision is a natural monopoly and therefore needs extensive regulation makes the cooperation between the public and private sector very difficult. Indeed, weak regulation is the probably the most important risk factor. Other risk factors include political instability, inadequate tariff and contract design, and lack of public support. These risk factors are analyzed using four case studies, two failed ones and two that are considered relatively successful. The analysis aims to find answers to the question whether the initiative of development agencies to heavily promote the concept of public-private partnerships in water and sanitation is justified and appropriate.

  • This book provides answers to the questions of why human-kind should go into space, and on the relative roles of governments and markets in the evolution of the space economy. It adopts an interdisciplinary approach to answer those questions. Science and technology define the boundaries of what is possible. The realization of the possible depends on economic, institutional, and political factors. The book thus draws from many different academic areas such as physical science, astronomy, astronautics, political science, economics, sociology, cultural studies, and history. In the literature, the space economy has been analyzed using different approaches from science and technology to the effects of public expenditures on economic growth and to medium term effects on productivity and growth. This book brings all these aspects together following the evolutionary theory of economic change. It studies processes that transform the economy through the interactions among diverse economic agents, governments, and the extra-systemic environment in which governments operate. Its historical part helps to better understand motivations and constraints - technical, political, and economical - that shaped the growth of the space economy. In the medium term, global issues - such as population changes, critical or limited natural resources, and environmental damages – and technological innovations are the main drivers for the evolution of the space economy beyond Earth orbit. In universities, th...

Despite their similarities, Russia and China adopted two very different strategies toward reforming their economic structure. Russian Federation launched the program of mass privatization of the state-owned enterprises, while People's Republic of China chose more gradual approach toward restructuring of the economy at large and its public sector in particular. In the years of the partial reform China demonstrated the high rate of economic growth, large inflow of Foreign Direct Investments and improvement of the performance of its state sector, while Russian economy experienced the prolonged and severe economic downturn with falling industrial production rate and hyperinflation.

  • Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: For the past ten years America has enjoyed a remarkably prolonged economic expansion. In 1998 and 1999 the international private investors community as well as institutional fund managers could follow an exceptional internet and e-commerce boom, reflected and followed by rising internet, biotech, pharmaceutical and new economy stocks. Especially Going Publics at that time were highly successful and an exceptionally easy way of raising capital for small and mid cap companies as well as new economy start ups. It must be said that the capital gains for day traders and speculators at that time were of low risk. This new economy boom, which was also called by pros dot com and new economy era ended in 2001, after sharp decreases in stock prices, massive losses on the US stock exchanges for institutional as well as private investors. Most of the dot com companies couldn’t perform as they thought and struggled with high debt and losses. From today’s perspective one can say that the massive international IPO floatings in the new economy were driven by too high expectations and wrong valuations. Unfortunately, in Austria, where the financial - and capital markets could be seen as rather „thin”, small and mid cap companies have not even tried to go public in the United States of America on Nasdaq to raise capital and gain international reputation and size. Nevertheless in the future IPO’s are going to become more and more popular and important, also for Austrian ...

A milestone of these developments was the financial crisis experienced by the Greek economy since the autumn of 2009 and in particular, the Greek public sector which is subject to strong pressures from the external environment, to enhance its effectiveness and improve the efficiency of its services. The financial crisis has revealed chronic structural problems of the financial system and the Greek economy as a whole. Although the debate is stuck in the trap of bankruptcy and economic policy imposed by the creditors of Greece through the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Commission and the European Central Bank (ECB). In relevant discussions emphasis (Tsiafi, 2011) was given to the size of the Greek public sector and the need to shrink the state, reduce costs and reduce public employment.
